Straight lay patterns need 10% waste. Diagonal and herringbone patterns need 15–18% waste due to additional cutting. Always order your full quantity including waste before starting — colour matching between batches is difficult.
Tilers charge $55–$95/m² for labour depending on state, tile format and pattern complexity. Mosaics, intricate patterns or large-format tiles are at the higher end.
Standard tile adhesive covers approximately 4–6m² per bag (20kg). For large-format tiles or floor applications, allow for a bed of 3–4mm which uses more adhesive per m².
